Every year hikers travel to New Zealand to experience walking along many of the Great Walks NZ has to offer. Not many people can say they got hitched on one of them! Simone and Tom quite literally took their wedding off the beaten path to commit to each other at a hut in the backcountry of New Zealand’s Routeburn Track. The best part? Not only did they get to experience the stillness of the surrounding forests and mountains together, their friends and family did too!
Sarah and Steve wanted a once in a lifetime experience for their wedding day, and decided to spend a winter’s day flying around Fiordland National Park. Featuring a glacier ceremony set in front of the iconic Mount Tutoko, champagne popping at in the remote alpine of Lake Quill, and finishing off with a sunset overlooking Queenstown from the top of Cecil Peak.
Rochelle and Sam travelled from Australia to get married on top of Cecil Peak on a stormy day. They got ready at a historic cottage in Arrowtown and then flew up to Cecil Peak to exchange vows but it was so windy we decided to just get some epic photos and then hold their ceremony...
When a couple’s first question is “Can you ski?”, you know their wedding is going to be incredible. Sarah and Jeremy traded the wedding dress and tuxedo in favour of snow suits and skis. They decided they wanted to kickstart their lifetime of adventure together by heli-skiing down the Tasman Glacier in Mount Cook National Park.
Fenella and Billy decided to break tradition and opted for a wedding that represented who they were as a couple. Together they share a passion for hiking and the outdoors and their wedding was no different. They gathered all their loved ones, despite no one having any experience, and set off on their cross country skis to get hitched in the rolling white hills of the Crown Range Mountains outside of Wanaka.
